This Week's Class- Sunday, June 19th

YMYFs. This Sunday marks the start of a new series “Just Working It Out…” based on that familiar passage Phil. 2:12,13. Basically, our salvation here on earth takes work by both us and God to move us towards spiritual maturity. It seems there are lots of ups and down as our finances, health, relationships, work and married life are tried and tested. For the next five weeks, LORD willing, we’ll hear from our classmates about their “working out” stories of faith and following God during hard or uncertain times. This Sunday? Cavin & Franche Robinson and Jamail & Keme Carter! See you at 11:30 in 108 for a prompt start. You won’t want to miss one page of any chapter in this new YMYF book. Pastor Bob

This Week's Class- Sunday, June 5th

YMYFs. WHAT DID YOU EXPECT when we began this series on March 6th? Have the materials and discussions – and God’s Word and Spirit – began to redeem the realities of your marriage? This Sunday’s session will include some table discussions, a recap hand out, shared reflections with a closing focus on “the process”. I believe you will find this final lesson very encouraging: no matter how long you have been married, the length of your “issues” list or how “happy” you are with your spouse. Trust me on this. Pastor Bob

What Did You Expect? Session 10

Worship God as Savior
What do you do when your spouse sins? Do you throw their sin back into their face or do you provide grace? Do you look at your spouse and wish God would fix them or do you rest in His grace? Celebrate the grace you have been given and offer it to your spouse as well; understand that His timing for change is always right. Your spouse's failures provide an opportunity for you to facilitate change and spiritual growth in your life through the grace you offer.
Four things will happen if you ignore God's call to extend grace.
You will turn moments of ministry into moments of anger.

You will personalize what really is not personal at all.

You will be adversarial in your responses if 1 and 2 apply to you.

You will settle for quick situational solutions which will not get to the heart of the matter.

Ask yourself, on what issues and conflicts do I typically show inadequate grace?

Our problem is not that we don't love each other enough, our problem is that we don't love God enough.

Welcome Baby Carter!

Jamail and Keme Carter are thrilled to announce the birth of their baby boy!  Judson Caleb Carter was born on May 15th, weighing in at 7 lbs 9 oz.  He joins big brother Joshua and big sister Kylie.  All are doing well.  Praise God!

What Did You Expect? Session 9 Lesson Recap

In order to love others as God intends me to, I must:
Worship God as creator; God has purposely made us different. I must purposely look at the way my spouse has been constructed and then celebrate the creator.
In marriage there are often rejections of the creator. Your spouse did not choose who they are. It is hurtful to be rejected for choices I did not make.
  1. How does worshiping God as creator help me love others?
  2. What is God's purpose in making us different?
  3. What aspects of your spouse's "hard wiring" have you been critical of that you need to accept as God's creation?
  4. What aspects of your own "hard wiring" do you need to accept as God's creation?

Worship God as sovereign; God has purposely placed my spouse and me together. You are not writing your story; somebody is carefully writing every detail of your life.
  1. How does worshiping God as sovereign help me love others?
  2. What is God's purpose in placing us with our spouse?
  3. How has God brought the two of us together?
  4. How has God used your spouse to make you more like Christ?
Just between the two of you.
  • Sit down together and pray together.
  • Share with your spouse how God has used him/her in your life.
  • Share with your spouse an area where you feel unappreciated or criticized by him/her.

Imagine finding a secret passageway to a faraway land...a world full of mystery and enchantment. That fantasy becomes a thrilling adventure in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the first tale of C.S. Lewis' acclaimed children's books, The Chronicles of Narnia. When four children pass through a special wardrobe closet, they discover the kingdom of Narnia, a land of talking animals and mythical creatures. But an evil witch's spell has cast Narnia into eternal winter. Fearing that an ancient prophecy has come true, and that the children are Narnia's chosen rulers, the witch tricks the youngest brother into betraying his family. Now, only Aslan, noble lion and King of the Woods, can help them defeat the witch, restore springtime to Narnia, and claim their rightful places on the throne.
